The Centro Hospitalar do Baixo Vouga (CHBV) is an institution of the National Health Service that provides care to a population in the order of 400,000 people. Renowned for its clinical excellence, effectiveness and efficiency, the CHBV is a reference institution in the region of Aveiro, and in the country, not only for the quality of medical services, as well as the role it takes in research, innovation and technological and therapeutic development.

Having a strong belief that teamwork is always more solid and fruitful, the CHBV invests in strategic partnerships with institutions that want to do, every day, more and better. This is the reason why this institution has elected the Universidade de Aveiro and the Agrupamento de Centros de Saúde do Baixo Vouga as key partners for various projects.

In addition to the scientific contribution, the main mission of this institution involves the quality in medical services, always trying to use the articulation with the other agents of the Region, notably with the Rede de Cuidados de Saúde Primários and with the Rede Nacional de Cuidados Continuados Integrados


Organized by Clinical Departments (Medical Department, Surgical Department, Women's and Child’s Department, Psychiatry and Mental Health Department, Emergency and Critical Care Medicine Department and Means of Diagnosis and Therapy Department), the CHBV has about 1620 workers.

On average, about 202 000 specialty consultations, 177,000 emergency episodes and 20 000 internments are annually held in this institution.

Because the future has to be earned in the present, without ever losing sight of the achievements of the past, the CHBV works in a dynamic and multidisciplinary perspective, always with the aim to eradicate the disease and give quality of life to all who come to us.
