Factor V is an enzymatic cofactor with a central role in hemostatic balance maintainance (involved in procoagulant and anticoagulant process). Norwegian Paul Owren, in 1947, described this mutation based on the study of a patient with severe bleeding tendency. Later on, clinical studies demonstrate that factor V deficiency led to hemorrhagic tendency due to its central role in the coagulation process.
