Salmonella is a genus of bacteria belonging to the family Enterobacteriaceae
that is commonly referred to as salmonella. Are Gram-negative bacilli in the
form of non-sporulated not encapsulated. Among the most important to human
health and animal Salmonella typhimurium is one of the causative agents
of gastroenteritis. Salmonella typhimurium infection manifests itself in the first
48 hours after ingestion of contaminated food or water. Symptoms
include nausea, vomiting and acute diarrhea. After ingestion, the
bacteria can colonize the intestinal tract and penetrate the intestinal
epithelium to gain access to systemic sites, such as the liver and
spleen, through lymphatic and blood circulation.
