The Mass Spectrometry Unit of the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology - University of Coimbra, was established in 2006 at Biocant - Biotechnology Park in Cantanhede, as a result of a joint effort of the "Molecular Biotechnology and Health" research area and the "Neuroprotection and Cell Death" research group - CNC-UC.

The Unit is specialized in the identification and quantification of proteins from complex samples, identification of post-translational modifications, and identification and quantification of metabolites. It is mainly focused on running R&D projects with partners and collaborators (from CNC, Biocant, other R&D institutes and private companies).

Our team has also been involved in Masters and PhD courses with the Chemistry department - UC, Life Sciences Department of the UC, Faculty of Medicine of UC, CNC-UC, and others,.

The Mass Spectrometry Unit - Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology, University of Coimbra, is member of Portuguese National Mass Spectrometry Network (Rede Nacional de Espectrometria de Massa).

Since 2006 the Mass spectrometry unit comprised also the Proteomics Unit which contains own research projects in the field of biomarkers of oxidative stress, neurodegenerative and neurological disorders
